every year so far some kid has brought up condoms and so far every year some other kid has asked if balloons can be used as condoms, since, ya know, condoms and balloons are both made out of latex. yes, i teach social studies, not science and yes, the question is always in context, believe it or not. this year it was celibacy. also, see under "total middle school comment" regarding re-populating the earth and celibacy: "but what if everyone died?" i told her to think about it: what if EVERYONE died? after musing the thought over for a moment, she got it.
